Metasequoia Lane on Nami Island in autumn, two rows of tall rust-orange trees over a dirt path with two walkers small at the far end
Nami Island, Korea
Walk Metasequoia Lane under the tall trees, ride the zip wire about 1 km across the Bukhan River onto the island, and cycle the riverside loop in an hour. Guided Nami Island tours from Seoul start from $35 per person, most with the ferry and entry ticket already in the price, and this page shows which tour adds what, from the Garden of Morning Calm to the rail bike.
Nami Island is a tree-lined river island in Chuncheon, about an hour from Seoul by ITX-Cheongchun train to Gapyeong, entered by ferry with a ticket that includes the round trip, KRW 19,000 (about $14.19) for an adult. Most guided day tours from Seoul carry that ticket in their price. The pick: the Nami and Garden of Morning Calm tour, rated 4.7 from 1,353 reviews at $54 per person.

Six choices turn a Nami Island day trip from Seoul into a plan, and each card below settles one of them.
Which trip
Most travellers pick a guided day tour with tickets included, and the Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm tour is the pick at $54 for 10 to 12 hours, rated 4.7 from 1,353 reviews. If you only want the island, the shuttle bus is the cheapest ride at $23.81 but carries no guide and no ticket.
The island is open 365 days a year and the first ferry reaches it at 08:00, so an early start beats the crowds on Metasequoia Lane. In winter an icebreaker keeps the ferries running, and a seasonal tour adds Eobi Ice Valley for $56.
Four ways cover it. The ITX-Cheongchun from Yongsan takes about 60 minutes to Gapyeong, the Gyeongchun Line from Sangbong about 50 minutes, the direct shuttle bus takes about 9 hours round trip from central Seoul, and a guided tour takes 9 to 12 hours depending on the stops.
The island ticket is KRW 19,000 (about $14.19) for an adult and includes the round-trip ferry, while the cheapest guided day tours start at $35 and the private tour runs $192. Most guided tours carry the island ticket in the price, so there is nothing to pay at the wharf.
Families can rent bikes, strollers and wheelchairs on the island, and children under 36 months enter free. The Seoraksan day trip at $89.40 runs 14 hours and suits walkers, while the private tour at $192 suits groups who want their own pace.
Tours bolt other stops onto Nami. The Gangchon rail bike tour at $70, the Alpaca World tour at $74 and the Petite France tour at $78.10 all fill the day with a second sight, with tickets handled for you.
Discount admission (middle and high school students, severely disabled card holders, national merit holders, ages 70+) is KRW 16,000 with the regular ferry.
Special admission for children aged 36 months to elementary school is KRW 13,000 with the regular ferry, and children under 36 months with a guardian enter free.
Nami Island is open 365 days a year, and ferries run in rain, and an icebreaker keeps them running when the river freezes unless a notice is posted. KTO lists island hours as 08:00-21:00.
Regular ferries run every 30 minutes from 08:00 to 09:00, every 10-20 minutes from 09:00 to 18:00 and every 30 minutes from 18:00 to 21:00. The crossing takes about 5 minutes after boarding.
Nami Island belongs to Chuncheon, Gangwon, but the ferry leaves from Gapyeong Wharf in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, 1024 Bukhangangbyeon-ro, Gapyeong-eup.
Parking at the wharf is KRW 6,000 for a small vehicle and KRW 10,000 for a large one for the first 12 hours, then KRW 1,000 per extra hour, card payment only.
The zip wire descends from an 80 m tower for about 1 km over the Bukhan River into the island, with rider limits of height 140-200 cm and weight 45-120 kg.
The 1-year passport (annual membership with unlimited visits by regular ferry) is KRW 69,000, and Nami Island welcomes nearly 2 million visitors a year.
Most people walk Metasequoia Lane, rent a bike on the riverside paths and eat under the trees. The island is small enough to cover on foot in a morning and flat enough for a slow ride.
Bikes, Trains and Rentals on the Island
The Bike Center in the middle of the island rents everything from single bikes to electric tri-way bikes, open 09:00 to 18:00. Rides are priced by time and type, and strollers and wheelchairs are rented at the Tourism Bureau next to Nami Wharf. The figures below come from the island's own pages.

Walks and Rides
Metasequoia Lane is the classic walk and the best-known photo spot on the island. Renting a bike lets you cover the riverside loop in about one hour, with the water on one side and the tree rows on the other. Own bikes, e-bikes and scooters cannot be brought onto the ferry, so rent on the island instead.
Staying the Night, Dogs and Rules
You can sleep on the island at Hotel Jeonggwanru, where rooms start from KRW 148,000 (about $110.56), with check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00. Leashed dogs under 20 kg may enter, and a free dog playground called Together Park takes dogs under 15 kg from 10:00 to 17:00. Tents are not allowed, mats are. Drones are banned everywhere on the island.
Every guided day trip pairs Nami Island with something else in Gapyeong or beyond. Here is what each add-on costs on its own and which tours put it in the day.
The Five Add-ons
The Garden of Morning Calm, the Gangchon Rail Bike, Alpaca World, Petite France and Italian Village and Seoraksan National Park are the stops tours bolt onto Nami. Official prices below come from each operator's own site or from VisitKorea.

Garden of Morning Calm and the Light Festival
The garden opens 08:30 to 19:00, and from December to March it keeps winter hours of 10:00 to 21:00. In winter the Lighting Festival switches its lights on from 17:00 to 21:00, with Saturdays running later. Two tours plan the day around the dark: the Nami and Garden of Morning Calm Tour leaves later in winter to reach the festival after dark, and the rail bike tour ends its winter timetable there at 17:30 before returning to Seoul at 21:00.
Alpaca World Hours and the Tour Timetable
Alpaca World opens 10:00 to 18:00 and closes every Monday and Tuesday, so check the date you pick. The healing walk, where you lead an alpaca, costs KRW 15,000 (about $11.21) extra. The Alpaca World and Nami Island Tour reaches Alpaca World at 10:00 and Nami Island at 13:00, with the rail bike or the garden as the afternoon option.
Seoraksan and the Rail Bike Extras
The Seoraksan and Nami Island Day Trip is a 14-hour day, the longest of the lot, and the Seoraksan cable car is not in the price: KRW 13,000 (about $9.71) for an adult, KRW 9,000 (about $6.72) for a child. On the rail bike, every tour rides a shared 4-seater cart. A private cart costs KRW 5,000 (about $3.74) per person, paid on site in cash, on the Nami and Garden tour, and KRW 10,000 (about $7.47) per person on the S.A. Seoul tours, subject to availability.
The entry ticket is also your ferry. Naminara Republic, the island operator, sells it with the round-trip crossing from Gapyeong Wharf already included.
Ticket Prices
These are the official admission prices of Naminara Republic. The regular ticket covers entry and the regular ferry both ways, so there is nothing else to pay at the wharf.
Table of ticket prices from the operator:
| Ticket | Regular ferry both ways | Motorboat in, ferry out |
| Regular (adult) | KRW 19,000 (about $14.19) | KRW 29,000 (about $21.66) |

| Special (36 months to elementary school age) | KRW 13,000 (about $9.71) | KRW 23,000 (about $17.18) |
Children under 36 months with a guardian enter free. Groups of 20 or more regular-price visitors get 10% off with the regular ferry.

The Ferry and the Motorboat
The crossing takes about 5 minutes after boarding. The first ferry reaches the island at 08:00 and the last one in is at 21:00. Ferries run every 10 to 20 minutes between 09:00 and 18:00, and every 30 minutes at the edges of the day. The island is open 365 days a year, and an icebreaker keeps the ferries running when the river freezes in winter.
The motorboat is the other way over. It runs 09:00 to 18:00 in season, leaves when two or more people are aboard and carries up to five per boat.
The Zip Wire As Your Way In
The zip wire drops from an 80 m tower and runs about 1 km over the Bukhan River. Buy tickets at the Zip Tower opposite the ticket office in the car park.
Zip wire courses and prices from the operator:
| Zip wire course | Price | Lands at |
| Family Course | KRW 55,000 (about $41.09) | Nami Island |
| Adventure Course | KRW 58,000 (about $43.33) | Jaraseom, then motorboat |
Each price includes island admission and the return ferry. Riders must be 140 to 200 cm tall and 45 to 120 kg, and weight limits can change with the weather.

On a Tour
Every guided tour on this page carries the Nami Island ticket in its price. The one exception is the Seoul to Nami Island Shuttle Bus at $23.81, which is the bus only, so you buy the ticket at Gapyeong Wharf.
You can still ride the zip wire on a tour day, but only if you enter the island by it, since it cannot be ridden as an exit. Ask your guide before the group boards the ferry. Zip wire tickets are not part of any tour price here, and the Seoraksan day trip listing states its zip wire tickets are excluded.
Nami Island is an easy day trip from Seoul. Four ways cover it: two trains to Gapyeong Station, a direct shuttle bus from central Seoul, or a guided tour that also adds other stops.
The Four Ways There
Trains run from central Seoul to Gapyeong Station, and from there it is a short hop to the wharf. The direct shuttle bus picks up at three central Seoul stops and drops you at the wharf without changes, sold as the Seoul to Nami Island Shuttle Bus. A guided tour covers the whole day with a guide and tickets, which you can compare in the tour catalog.

Gapyeong Station to the Wharf
Gapyeong Station sits about 1.5 km from Gapyeong Wharf. Walk it in about 20 minutes, or ride the No. 10-4 bus or a taxi for about 5 minutes. If you drive, parking at the wharf costs KRW 6,000 (about $4.48) for a small car for the first 12 hours, card payment only.
When a Tour Beats the Train, and When It Does Not
A tour wins when you want two or three places in one day. The Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm Tour and the Nami Island and Petite France Tour link several Gapyeong sights with the tickets already bought for you, and you never wait for a timetable. The train wins when you want only the island, early and at your own pace: you catch the first ferry at 08:00 and walk Metasequoia Lane before the tour buses unload.
Booking a Nami Island day trip from Seoul works best when you know the limits up front, so here is the honest small print before you pay.
Crowds are real. Most shared tours carry up to 40 people, some run up to 43, and large groups mean long ferry queues on peak weekends. If you dislike big groups, the Private Nami Island Tour from Seoul runs at $192 with just your party.
Lunch is rarely in the price. On most tours it costs extra, budget KRW 15,000 (about $11.21) to KRW 20,000 (about $14.94) on the rail bike day. The shuttle bus includes no ticket either, so you pay KRW 19,000 (about $14.19) per adult at the wharf.
The zip wire is not a tour perk. It cannot be ridden as an exit, and zip wire tickets are not part of any tour price here. Riders must also be 140 to 200 cm tall and 45 to 120 kg.
Some days need a minimum to run. The rail bike tour runs only with 8 or more people, and if the group is short you get an email three days before with a refund instead of a tour. Alpaca World days also need a minimum of 8 people.
Cancellations and refunds are strict. One listing refuses refunds inside 24 hours even for weather changes, illness or flight delays. Weekend traffic can eat into the schedule, and itineraries are subject to weather and traffic conditions.
These are long days. Shared tours run 10 to 12 hours, the Seoraksan day is 14 hours, and some start as early as 07:00 or 07:10. There is no hotel pickup on most listings, so you walk to fixed meeting points.
Alpaca World is closed every Monday and Tuesday, so that tour only works on other days. If you can only travel those days, the Nami Island and Gangchon Rail Bike Tour runs with no animal stop.
Check Dates on the Pick
The Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm Tour is the most reviewed day out, with the Nami and garden tickets in the price. Check live dates and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Great day. Our guide Seon Mi was fabulous and so helpful too (and funny). I would recommend to go on this activity during the week and avoid going at the weekend due to traffic and how busy each attraction was.
Our tour guide Zero was beautiful inside and out. She was friendly and helped us cover all the important parts of the trip smoothly. The tour was great value for money, although we wanted to spend more time at Alpaca World with our kids.
This was an awesome activity. The pace was perfect and we were able to see Nami and the Garden of Morningcalm without rushing. The rail bike tour was a lot of fun! Alex was a fun, knowledgeable guide who had great suggestions and made the day a success.
Lucia was nice though a bit hard to understand on the bus, but approachable and able to clarify instructions easily enough once we stopped. Overall the tour was fine despite being a long day, bus was a bit warm and felt old inside but otherwise comfortable enough.
spending the day with Michael and CH was such an interesting experience . we were very well looked after and learned a huge amount about south Korea and it's wonderful history. We very much enjoyed it as a family and would definitely recommend them for any future visits to this region.
The trip was so good and enjoyable. The Rail Bike was fun, Nami island has our heart and the K-Garden was full of calm. It was a perfect day. Our guide, Mina, was so kind and prepared. She shared a lot of information with us about South-Korea, recommended a lot of interesting things. Thank you for this wonderful day, Mina! By: Group 3 girls :)
Ron was great tour guide, but sitting in the back of the bus, it was a bit hard to hear all the explanations. The Garden of Morning calm was the best part of the tour, Nami island is a bit too touristy and hyped up. The rail bike experience is quite good. The bus transport is decent.

Nami Island Tips Before You Go
Five things worth doing and five to skip, each with the reason.
Do
Do go on a weekday because weekend traffic and crowds are the main complaint, and autumn weekends are the busiest of all.
Do take the first ferry at 08:00 because the lanes are quiet before the tour groups land and the ferry queue is short.
Do check the Monday and Tuesday closure before booking the Alpaca World tour because Alpaca World is closed every Monday and Tuesday unless it is a public holiday.
Do bring cash for on-site extras because the private rail bike cart costs KRW 5,000 (about $3.74) per person paid in cash on site.
Do keep your ticket because you need it to board the return ferry to Gapyeong Wharf.
Don't
Don't bring your own bike or scooter because they cannot go on the ferry, rent at the island's Bike Center instead.
Don't fly a drone because drones are banned on the island.
Don't pitch a tent because tents are not allowed, picnic mats are.
Don't book the shuttle bus at $23.81 thinking the ticket is in it because the shuttle is transport only, you buy the Nami Island ticket, KRW 19,000 (about $14.19) for an adult, at the wharf.
Don't plan the zip wire for riders under 140 cm or over 120 kg because the operator limits riders to 140 to 200 cm tall and 45 to 120 kg.
Everything Else Worth Knowing
Why Is Nami Island So Famous?
Nami Island is a half-moon shaped island in the Bukhan River, about an hour from Seoul, visited by close to two million people a year. It is famous for its tree-lined lanes, for the KBS drama Winter Sonata and for a playful idea: the island calls itself an independent nation.
A Man-made Island That Declares Itself a Republic
The island formed when the Cheongpyeong Dam was built in 1944. Forestation began in 1965 under founder Minn Byeong-do, who planted the trees people come to see today. Since then the island has run as the Naminara Republic, a mock nation with its own flag, stamps, currency and passport. The entry ticket is called a visa. In 2024 the island was designated Korea's largest private garden, with more than 30,000 trees. It welcomes about 2 million visitors a year, more than 700,000 of them from abroad.
The island takes its name from General Nami, a young commander who died at 28 after being falsely accused of treason. A tour company later tended his grave on the island with fresh soil before developing the site into the garden you see now.

Winter Sonata and Metasequoia Lane
The 2001 KBS drama Winter Sonata was shot on the island and pulled a wave of visitors from across Asia. Its most photographed scene runs down Metasequoia Lane, a corridor of tall trees transplanted from Seoul National University's nursery in 1977. In winter the same lane carries snow, in spring fresh leaves and in autumn gold.
Where the Island Actually is
The island belongs to Chuncheon in Gangwon Province, but almost every visitor arrives through Gapyeong, because the ferry leaves from Gapyeong Wharf in Gyeonggi Province at 1024 Bukhangangbyeon-ro. The crossing takes about 5 minutes. That is why nearly every Nami Island tour from Seoul is billed as a Gapyeong day trip.
When to Visit Nami Island: Spring, Autumn and Winter
Nami Island changes with the seasons and the tours change with it. Here is what each season shows and how the tours adjust.
Season by Season
The island welcomes about 2 million visitors a year and the calendar decides what you see. The table sums up the four seasons and how the tours from Seoul respond, using the seasonal notes of the operators and the island's own pages.
Season
What you see
Tour notes
Spring
Cherry blossom usually blooms from mid-April to early May
The seasonal tour builds packages around the blossom
Autumn
Colour from mid-October to early December, ginkgo best late October to mid-November
The busiest season, expect ferry queues and traffic
Winter
Snow, the Garden of Morning Calm light festival, Eobi Ice Valley while it stays frozen
Later pickups, timetables shift to reach the lights after dark
Summer
Green river paths, extra evening ferries on weekends and holidays from mid-July to late August, last ferry 21:30
The seasonal tour adds Cafe Pokpo on some summer packages
A ginkgo lane in early November. Illustrative image.
Autumn Crowds
Autumn colour from mid-October to early December is the most popular time and the ginkgo lane is at its best from late October to mid-November. A reviewer of the classic tour advises going on a weekday to avoid weekend traffic and crowds, and the same advice holds on the island paths. Ferries run every 10 to 20 minutes from 09:00 to 18:00 but queues still build at the wharf.
On the seasonal tour the autumn packages follow the foliage.
Winter on Nami
The island opens 365 days a year and the ferry keeps running when the river freezes, with an icebreaker clearing the crossing. Winter changes the tour timetables: the Nami Island and Gangchon Rail Bike Tour picks up at 09:10 from mid December to mid March and ends at 21:00 after the Garden of Morning Calm light festival. The Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm Tour may add Eobi Ice Valley from 20 December to 11 March and leaves later so the group reaches the light festival after dark.
The honest answer depends on what you want from the day. Here is who the island suits and who will find it small.
Who It Suits
Nami Island is a small river island in the Bukhan River, about an hour from Seoul by ITX-Cheongchun train. It suits travellers who want tree-lined walks, cycle paths, photographs and a calm day out of the city. The Metasequoia Lane and the ginkgo lane are the reason it draws over 700,000 foreign visitors a year from 122 countries, and the 2001 drama Winter Sonata was shot here.
If you come for trees, cycling, a K-drama connection or a quiet walk by the water, it delivers.
Who Will Find It Small
The island is small. Riding a bike round the whole island takes about one hour, and you can walk the main lanes in a morning. On a crowded weekend or autumn afternoon the lanes feel busy rather than calm.
Some travellers online call it overrated for exactly that reason. If you want mountain hiking, museums or city energy, a full day here alone may feel thin.
How to Make It Worth It
Three moves make the day stronger. Go on a weekday and arrive early, the first ferry leaves at 08:00 and the crossing takes about 5 minutes. Pair Nami with a second stop on one tour, the Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm Tour gives 3.5 free hours on the island plus the garden for $54 per person.
Or stay the night at Hotel Jeonggwanru on the island, where rooms run from KRW 148,000 (about $110.56) and the lanes belong to you after the day visitors leave. Rent a bike at the Bike Center from KRW 5,000 (about $3.74) per 30 minutes to cover more ground.
Match the Tour to You
Four quick matches. For most travellers the right fit is below.
Just Nami, the whole day, with a guide and the ticket included: the Nami Island Day Tour from Seoul at $35 per person gives about 4 hours on the island.
Animals in the morning, Nami in the afternoon: the Alpaca World and Nami Island Tour at $74 per person, feed the alpacas at 10:00 and reach Nami at 13:00.

Nami Island: Questions
Why is Nami Island so famous?
The tree-lined lanes, above all Metasequoia Lane and the ginkgo lane, made the island a picture of Korea, and the 2001 drama Winter Sonata was filmed here. The island draws about 2 million visitors a year and has more than 30,000 trees. You can read more in the section on what the island is at about Nami Island.
Is a day trip to Nami Island worth it?
Yes if you want walks, cycling and photos, and no if you expect a full day's worth of attractions on its own. The island is small enough to cycle round in about one hour, so most travellers pair it with a second stop. The Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm Tour adds the garden and an optional rail bike to the day.
Is Nami Island a day trip from Seoul?
Yes, it is one of the most popular day trips from Seoul. The ITX-Cheongchun train from Yongsan to Gapyeong Station takes about 60 minutes, then the wharf is about 1.5 km away. Shared tours run 9 to 14 hours depending on the stops, see the tour catalog.
What do people do at Nami Island?
Walking the lanes, renting a bike at the Bike Center, riding the Sky Bike at KRW 3,000 (about $2.24), photographing the trees and eating by the river are the main activities. The island also has a zipline, TreeGo ropes and the Charity Train at KRW 4,000 (about $2.99) one way. The full list is at things to do.
How much is the Nami Island ticket?
Regular admission with the round-trip ferry included is KRW 19,000 (about $14.19) per adult. Children aged 36 months to elementary school pay KRW 13,000 (about $9.71) and children under 36 months enter free. Every price is at tickets and admission.
Does the Nami Island ferry cost extra?
No, the regular ticket includes the round-trip ferry. Regular ferries run every 10 to 20 minutes from 09:00 to 18:00, first ferry at 08:00 and last at 21:00, and the crossing takes about 5 minutes. Details are at the ferry and zip wire.
How long do you need on Nami Island?
Three to four hours covers the lanes, a bike ride and lunch. The tours give it between about 3.5 free hours on the classic tour and about 4 hours on the Nami-only day. Compare the timings in the comparison table.
Which Nami Island tour includes the Garden of Morning Calm?
The Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm Tour includes the garden ticket, admission to the garden alone is KRW 11,000 (about $8.22). The Petite France tour and the rail bike tour also include it, and the private tour visits it on the options that stop there.
The classic Gapyeong day at $54 per person covers the Nami ticket, the Garden of Morning Calm ticket, a guide and an optional rail bike ride.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start.
